Life Stuff

I'll be posting various things here about my life that I'm comfortable sharing. My own, personal "Social Media" thing away from the usual platforms.

Title: The Voice Beyond the Veil

Life Stuff

I know there are solutions to this, but right now, I just want to vent and feel recognized.

So today I was supposed to clean the kitchen table, the bench, and the floor underneath. Simple? Ha ha no. Not for an ADHD brain. I took a look at the kitchen table and my brain was like "No. Let's watch videos instead." I turned on a cleaning video to try a kind of solo body doubling session. After a few minutes, I felt like I could tackle some papers. I sorted through some papers and threw away trash. Then I was like "Ok. Full trash needs to be changed." I tried lifting the bag out and it was heavy. My anger instantly exploded. I yanked that trash bag out and boyfriend heard me struggling. He came into the room and we talked about what happened.

I am not doing this cleaning task today. I'm doing it on Friday instead.

I think my brain focused on the big picture, and that was overwhelming for me so my brain was like "NO! I'm going to make SURE we are NOT doing this today!" It was fighting my efforts to clean!

It's like trying to tell a toddler to clean. It's NOT happening.
There's even a term people sometimes use: interest-based nervous system. ADHD brains are often more responsive to novelty, urgency, challenge, or immediate rewards than to "I should do this because it's important."
